St Columba girl stuns with O-Level dististions

A 16-YEAR-OLD wunderkind from St Columba's High School in Bulawayo attained 12 distinctions in the recently released Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) November 2014 O-Level examinations, The chronicle reported.

Mitchelle Katemauswa from Sauerstown suburb could not believe her eyes after collecting her results on Monday.

She said she only expected four distinctions in the examinations.

Mitchelle sat for and got straight As in History , Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geography, Technical Graphics, Ndebele, Principles of Accounts, Fashion and Fabrics and Integrated Science.

The gifted teenager told The Chronicle that she was elated to have passed with distinctions in all her subjects.

"I'm excited, it's unbelievable and I wasn't expecting it;' she said.

She said her favourite subject was Biology.

"I would like to thank God, my headmistress, teachers and family for the support during my studies, they encouraged me to work hard to attain the best results;' said Mitchelle.

Mitchelle is staying put at St Columba's for her A-Levels and intends to pursue Maths, Biology and Chemistry.

After high school she has set her sights on a career in bio-chemistry.

St Columba's is ranked as the best school in Bulawayo and is number 27 nationally.

The school recorded an 86,36 percent pass rate with 176 students sitting for last year's Zimsec 0-Level examinations.
