Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena has criticised Primary and Secondary Education Minister Dr Lazarus Dokora for advancing retrogressive policies.
The sharp rebuke which was made in Gokwe follows Dr Dokora's utterances that school children should be allowed to carry mobile phones to school.
Dr Dokora has come under fire for alleged inconsistencies in policy in the education sector.
Wadyajena, who was addressing people in his constituency, said after controversially scrapping extra lessons, the Minister has gone too far by openly encouraging pupils to carry mobile phones to school.
"The education sector is critical for the development of the area and Minister Dokora has failed owing to inconsistencies in policy framework, banning of extra-lessons.
"Why do you want cell-phones at schools? Pupils must use their phones at home because at schools there are computers for research. Dr Dokora is derailing the education system," said Wadyajena.
Wadyajena was speaking after he handed over computers to Kadzidiriri School in Nembudziya.
Politburo member Edson Chakanyuka said there is need to safeguard the computers and ensure their maximum utilisation for the benefit of the district.
The school head extended an invitation to other schools to also utilise the computers at his school.
The school children took time to display their skills in computer usage.
