Government is set to recruit hundreds of science and mathematics teachers who were failing to secure jobs despite a serious shortage of qualified staff due to massive brain drain.

While several schools do not have such personnel, it emerged that several university graduates were roaming the streets and failing to get jobs, hence the call by the Ministry of Education for them (graduates) to register with the relevant authorities.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education called on holders of the Diploma in Science Education, Bachelor of Science Education and Diploma in Education in various disciplines of science, who were not employed, to report to respective district offices.

The ministry has a shortfall of 1 521 maths and science teachers and it has since been realised that there are some with qualifications, but not employed.
