Mkoba Teachers' College in Gweru has been operating without a clinic since its establishment in 1976 forcing students to seek medical services from outside the institution.

In a notice last Friday, the college said it intends to open a clinic in two weeks' time to curb absenteeism by students as they look for health services outside the institution.

"This serves to inform you of our intention to open a clinic at the college, two weeks from the date of advertisement," the college said.

"The clinic is designed to offer health services to Mkoba Teachers' College so as to reduce absenteeism from lectures, seeking health services from outside clinics."

The institution relies on nearby council-run Mkoba 2 Clinic as well as health centres in the city centre.

College principal, Florence Dube had not responded to questions e-mailed to her at the time of going to print.
