A British non-governmental organisation (NGO), Lights for Education Solar Network has donated solar equipment set to benefit rural schools and clinics countrywide.
Zanu-PF secretary for education Dr Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, said The Lights for Education comes at a crucial time of Zimbabwe's education system and will facilitate computerisation programme.
There are schools without electricity, which were given computers hence the installation will be more than welcome.
Dr Ndlovu said the country's success in peace and development was due to the educational progress in urban and rural areas and that explained why Zimbabwe had the highest literacy rate in Africa.
"Zimbabwe is not a dark nation anymore. Zimbabwe is at war against ignorance hunger and diseases. Lights for Education is welcome to join us in this company," he said.
Dr Ndlovu said the Zimbabwe Open University student teachers in rural areas would also benefit immensely as some of them study with candlelight.
"In health, I am pleased that some clinics will have solar energy," he said.
