Mugabe to cap 3,451 UZ graduates

UNIVERSITY of Zimbabwe Chancellor President Robert Mugabe will today confer degrees to 3,451 graduates from the institution at a ceremony that coincides with its 60th anniversary.
UZ Vice Chancellor Professor Levi Nyagura said yesterday: "Tomorrow is a big day for us. We've our graduation ceremony coinciding with our 60 years of existence, hence we'll be celebrating our 60th anniversary.
"We'll be presenting for conferment of degrees for 3,451 graduates. And from this lot, we've 2,812 graduates getting their first degrees, 602 graduates receiving masters' degrees, 18 receiving master of philosophy degrees, and we also have 14 graduates who will be receiving their doctor of philosophy degrees."
Prof Nyagura said the country would benefit from the new group of professionals. "The interesting thing is that the country has got key areas where human resources are needed like in the medicine industry," he said. "We'll be presenting 91 new medical doctors, seven dental doctors and 50 pharmacists.
"We also have 124 engineers, 93 agricultural experts, 389 accountants for the business sector and 136 lawyers being presented with their degrees."
