REDCLIFF - Parents have, yet again, been urged to work together with schools in the development of their children.
Speaking at an end of year prize-giving gala held at Redcliff Primary School on Tuesday, the District Education Officer for Kwekwe, said that parents should not abandon their kids to teachers.
'We need to work together as schools and parents. Without parents, there is no school. Without a school, there is no child. Without a child there is no future ,' he lamented.
He also implored parents to be involved in Schools Development Committees, as a viable vehicle for developing their schools.
'It is useless complaining about state of affairs in schools, and yet parents sit back. Be there. Be involved.'
The headmistress of the school, Mai Chinembiri, whose no nonsense approach has won her much acclaim , reiterated the need for parents and schools to work together.
Redcliff Primary School is credited as one of the top schools in Zimbabwe, thanks to the hard work of the staff.
Some of pupils who won awards could not hide their joy, some even shedding a tear or so.
A regular high performing pupil, Muniki Mzemba, said that she was proud of her achievements.
'I thank God for all this. My mom, aunties and teachers have been and integral part of my studies.
'They all have stood by me,' said Muniki, a straight A pupil.
Asked what she would want to be as an adult, the promising Muniki said that she was still to decide, but rather be a doctor - whose grandfather was the Chief Engineer at the Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company (Ziscosteel).
Other pupils expectedly expressed similar views.
A parent, Pilot Dube, could not hide his joy in her daughter winning an award.
'Tindo ndafara (Tendai I'm overjoyed). She has made me proud.'
Another parent, Cosmas Murenga, said that his efforts in encouraging his son to read paid off.
'In my home, it's read, read, read. We have not much time for TV and games. It's reading.'
Redcliff Primary School and a nearby school, Torwood Primary School, have been ranked the best schools in the country for some years.
