Zimsec exam markers not yet paid

THE Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) Grade Seven markers have expressed concern over delays by the examinations body to pay them.
The markers yesterday said they feared the examination body would not honour its contractual agreement but Zimsec officials yesterday insisted that all markers had been paid.
Teachers who spoke to The Chronicle said they heard that a few had received their money yesterday.
"There was rumour yesterday that the money had been deposited but we are yet to get it. Yesterday afternoon there was another rumour that a handful had the money reflecting in their accounts," said a marker who cannot be named for professional reasons.
The markers said there was panic as they had been promised payment within seven days after finishing marking.
"We were only paid $57 for transport and overnight allowances and we are yet to be paid for marking the papers," said another marker.
Zimsec Public Relations manager Nicky Dlamini said all examiners had been paid yesterday.
"Every examiner was paid yesterday into their personal accounts through the banks and not in cash as is stated in their contracts.
"We don't dictate bank processes, you may check with the bank to ask when the transfer will be in that specific examiner's account. However, as Zimsec we've fulfilled our obligation as stated in the contracts," said Dlamini.
The Grade Seven results were released last week.
Earlier this year, Zimsec chief executive officer Esau Nhandara said the markers would not encounter further delays in receiving their payments as the money was readily available as Grade Seven pupils were now paying examination fees.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education this year set Grade 7 examination fees at $3.
