Government is escalating feeding of school children programme as hunger is now severe, Primary and Secondary Education minister Lazarus Dokora has said.
At the beginning of the second term, Government embarked on schools feeding programme, mostly in rural areas to reduce school drop outs due to hunger.
About $109 million was budgeted.
"We are scaling up food programme in all provinces.
All provincial education directors should prepare schools for the feeding.
"We are in a middle of a severe food insecurity.
"We must feed schools children. Its a key matter".
Provision of some of the foodstuffs may however turn out to be the responsibility of the schools which will be encouraged to set up food gardens, according to the report.
Children in the first two years of school will be given priority.
We want schools to be used a food for work sites.
