Private schools have apologised to government for suspending lessons during Wednesday stay away.

Their grouping - Association of Trust Schools issued the apology.

According to state controlled Herald, Primary and Secondary Minister Dr Lazarus Dokora said he held a meeting with the private schools and warned them of their irresponsible conduct.

"It has come to our attention that in some schools, particularly those that fall under Association of Trust Schools (ATS), learners were turned away on the basis that there would be no teaching and learning on Wednesday," he said.

"To this effect, the ministry held a meeting with ATS leaders where it was categorically stated that any deviation to the learning calendar other than what ministry has prescribed is not tolerated. All ATS members who turned away learners took the opportunity to apologise."
