Psychiatric patients of both sexes at Gweru Hospital are reported to be housed at the same ward to the extent that patients have been caught having sex and some striping naked in front of each other.
Relatives of some patients are up in arms with hospital authorities.
"We have caught several indulging in sexual intercourse… I think this is because some medication they are getting enhances sexual appetite" said one relative.
Acting medical superintendent Dr Fungai Makwarimba says patients only share the same building bit not wards.
Patients are only allowed to interact during the day and nurses keep a close watch on them, he said.
"We have nurses who are always in the wards especially from the female wings.
"They would be monitoring patients" he said.
There have been several cases of health authorities sexually abusing females to the extent on impregnating them.
Relatives say their relative would struggle to rehabilitate under conditions that expose them to abuse.
