The Ministry of Health and Child Welfare says it wants to make sure that training in blood transfusion is standard for all nursing and medical schools in the country.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Gerald Gwinji made the remarks when he officially opened a training workshop for doctors and laboratory scientists on standard for blood donation processing and clinical transfusion in Zimbabwe.
Dr Gwinji said the only way to get the area of blood transfusion right is through continuous training and research in order to obtain evidence for policy making and changes.
Workshop facilitator, Dr Patricia Knox from the Association of America Blood Bank (AABB) South Africa said it is important to educate doctors to use blood and its products properly.
The Public Affairs Manager for National Blood Services Zimbabwe, Esther Masunda said they will join hands with all stakeholders to make sure the standards of blood donation and transfusion are properly followed in all health institutions in the country.
The workshop is the fourth since the launch of the National Blood Policy for Zimbabwe and the manual for standards for blood donation processing and clinical transfusion in Zimbabwe and it has attracted doctors from all corners of the country.
