The University of Zimbabwe has embarked on a training programme that will see traditional healers and herbalists employing new methods of packaging medicinal drugs.

Packaging of traditional medicines has always been looked down upon yet many people testify to have fully recovered after taking the traditional medicines and herbs.

Head of the University of Zimbabwe School of Pharmacy, Dr Charles Chiedza Maponga and a lecturer in the department, Martin Zenge said combining traditional herbs and modern packaging technology will improve the product, thereby making it more appealing to the end user.

Some of the traditional healers and herbalists, who are undergoing the training, commended the University of Zimbabwe for coming up with such a programme that will make them compete on the global level.

The students undertaking the training are drawn from the Traditional Medicine Practitioners' Council.

The course will be running as a two week block release for the next six months.
