Harare to host two-day health awareness campaign

A two day campaign on non communicable diseases (NCDs) will be held at the Africa Unity Square, Harare, starting this Wednesday where free medical services will be provided.
Health Advisor to the President, Dr Timothy Stamps, who toured a Red Cresent Clinic in Harare, said they have organised a health awareness campaign on NCDs and free medical services will be provided during the expo.
Dr Stamps said it is important for people to have knowledge on NCDs at a time government has been concentrating on the HIV and AIDS pandemic.
Dr Amin Hamidzadeh, who is a partner in the health awareness campaign, said they are expecting more than 15 000 people to benefit from the programme free of charge.
The major chronic NCDs are; cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory conditions.
The known risk factors are unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, alcohol consumption and smoking.
The health awareness campaign begins this Wednesday and ends on Thursday this week.
