Another case of cholera has been reported in Chiredzi, bringing the number of cases confirmed this month alone to two.
The development has also raised fears of a potential outbreak of the epidemic in Zimbabwe.
Ministry of Health and Child Welfare Epidemiology and Disease Control Deputy Director, Dr Isaac Phiri confirmed that of the several suspected cholera cases reported last week, only one case of a 26 year old man from Chikombedzi in Chiredzi District has tested positive after laboratory tests.
Another cholera case which tested positive was recorded in the first week of this month in the border town of Beitbridge where a 58 year old man from Paye village under Chief Chitaudze tested positive but was treated and discharged.
In a telephone interview, Epidemiology and Diseases Control Director, Dr Portia Manangazira said people should not panic as government has activated surveillance mechanisms.
Meanwhile, several cases of typhoid are currently under investigation in areas such as Chitungwiza, Harare and Chegutu.
From 2008 to 2009, the country experienced a devastating cholera outbreak that left more than 3 000 people dead.
