A Ministry of Health and Child Welfare worker stationed at Mpilo Central Hospital's sterilising department in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly preparing fake medical examination reports and forging doctors' signatures on behalf of patients for a fee.

Nkosilathi Dube (37), of 4924 Magwegwe West, was allegedly targeting patients and clients who would be seeking medical examination for different purposes and forging signatures of non-existent doctors for a fee.

Dube is jointly charged with Prettiness Marere, a vendor, whom he prepared fake medical reports for.

Marere, of 140 Barbourfields suburb, operates a caravan which sells food at the hospital's gate.

Dube and Marere appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Eveline Mashavakure yesterday on a charge of forgery. The two were remanded to Thursday on $30 bail.

For the State, Mrs Memory Ndlovu said Dube and Marere were spotted in the sterilising department despite the fact that it is prohibited for members of the public and staff members from other departments to enter.

Mr Filiel Dziva, a security guard manning the hospital premises, spotted the two and monitored them, the court heard.

Dube was allegedly completing medical examination forms and allegedly secretly dropping them into Marere's handbag.

The court was told that Mr Dziva alerted his colleagues at the gate who searched Marere and recovered the forged medical examination forms bearing particulars of non-existent doctors.

The forms also had the hospital's date stamp.

It is alleged that Dube had forged signatures of doctors Dube, M Ndlovu and Maxwell Kaponde, and there are no such doctors at Mpilo Central Hospital.

The medical forms were in the name of Nono's Take Away, which is run by Marere.
