Chimhedza, has allayed fears of a deadly ebola virus that was reported at Mpilo Hospital last Friday, saying though symptoms that raised the scare were similar to that of the deadly virus, it was in fact haemorrhagic fever.
"I can verify that it (disease) was not ebola and people can relax as the issue had caused a lot of unnecessary panic. You can also verify that with doctors at the hospital," he said.
In the story carried by this newspaper last week, it was reported that there was a possible ebola scare after a patient with ebola-like symptoms was admitted at Mpilo Hospital, leading to temporary closure of the Intensive Care Unit and the casualty wards as the hospital staff disinfected the area.
The patient, who has since died, reportedly had haemorrhagic fever and was bleeding from the nose, mouth and the rectum, leading to doctors making an ebola diagnosis.
A medical doctor, Jephat Moyo, who attended to the patient, said a final result on the blood samples was not yet out but investigations so far had proven that it was not ebola.
