Zim men avoiding getting circumcised for the fear of pain

Zimbabwean men are avoiding getting circumcised - because they believe it hurts according to a study.
According to the study, published in PloS One, about 40% of the men they interviewed said that the thing that put them off getting the end of their penis snipped, was their belief that it would hurt.
"Some of the fear is caused by awareness of traditional male circumcision where pain is thought to be a prerequisite for the procedure," the researchers wrote.
The researchers recommend that campaigns to promote circumcision as an anti-HIV/AIDS measure also highlight the fact that this pain isn't part of the procedure - we have local anaesthetics.
