President Mugabe yesterday donated 20 computers to two secondary schools in Makoni Central, Manicaland province, as part of his schools computerisation programme.
The Head of State and Government and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces gave 10 computes apiece to Nyarwize and Dumbamwe secondary schools at State House.
The donation followed representations made by the local Member of Parliament, Cde Patrick Chinamasa, who is also Finance and Economic Development Minister.
The two schools also received accessories like print servers, port switches, multimedia speakers, USB cable and recordable blank CDs.
Nyarwize Secondary School headmaster, Mr Canaan Zvirume and Dumbamwe Secondary School headmaster, Mr Aluwis Zivanai received the computers on behalf of their schools.
They pledged to introduce computer lessons next year.
Nyarwize Secondary School has nine teachers and Dumbabwe has 23. Ward 20 councillor in Makoni Central Pemina Mawanga who accompanied the headmasters, praised President Mugabe.
"The two schools have been failing to retain pupils because they had no computer lessons.
"Parents were preferring to send their children to missionary schools in the district shunning the two schools and the donation would go a long way in helping many pupils some of whom were walking long distances to get to schools that provided computer lessons," said Clr Mawanga.
"The donation would also help in enhancing high pass rate at these schools. I would also want to thank our Member of Parliament Cde Chinamasa for helping these schools get computers."
