Over 400 patients from Chishawasha have benefited from a one day medical outreach programme conducted by the Friends of Amai Mugabe's Children Trust at St Josephs Clinic.
This was the first medical outreach programme by the recently established Friends of Amai Mugabe's Children Trust, whose mission is to provide health care services to disadvantaged people across the country.
Patients who included the elderly and disadvantaged members of the Chishawasha community commended the Friends of Amai Mugabe's Children Trust team of medical doctors for affording them a chance to get medical attention free of charge.
"We are happy with this initiative and we want to thank the First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe and her team to the help they have extended to us," said one patient.
Representatives of the Chishawasha traditional leadership who included Chief Mushonga also graced the occasion and applauded the initiative which helps the less privileged members of society who have challenges getting medical services due to unaffordable fees.
"We are really grateful of the initiative, considering that most of our community members can't afford proper medical services, so we urge our leaders to continue with such programmes," said Chief Mushonga.
Friends of Amai Mugabe's Children Trust Project Director, Dr Stephen Karimu said the turnout was encouraging, adding that the trust is targeting to carry out weekly outreach programmes across the country.
"We had set ourselves a target of attending to not more than 200 patients but we were encouraged by the numbers of people who turned out for this programme," he said.
The medical team is led by Dr Karimu of Makumbe Hospital and comprises a pool of eight general practitioners and two specialists while nurses are hired for the outreach programmes.
