Following the spate of exposure to the corruption currently said to be rocking Mpilo general Hospital in Bulawayo the MDC-T senator Doctor Ruth Labode said there is an urgent need for the investigative audit of the whole health sector to establish the massive abuse of health funds by the institutions officials.
This come at a time when Mpilo Hospital has been put under spotlight for numerous financial abuses allegedly committed by the top officials.
The Chronicle recently exposed the unclear cancellation for a $3 million tender awarded to Bulawayo businessman Ashton Mpofu.
Labode queried the way some funds were being used at the hospital considering that 98% of the drugs in hospital were being donated.
"What the health sector needs now is a rapid investigative audit," said Labode.
"To tell us where the little money allocated is going to, because 98% of the drugs are donated. Something is not right somewhere. If the Mpilo Hospital Board did not institute a rapid audit investigation the nation would still be in the dark, as to why the hospital was forever in ICU ."
Health institution in the country are operating in a precarious situation where even the health officials seem not willing to execute their duties due to poor remuneration and unfavourable working conditions.
