Mugabe's enemies give $14m to Zimbabwe

The European Union, through its Essential Medicines Support Programme (EMSP), is giving Zimbabwe a $14m grant.
The European Commission, the government of Zimbabwe and Unicef will sign a grant document for the Essential Medicines Support Programme.
The grant intends to improve the access to essential medicines and medical supplies to primary and secondary healthcare facilities throughout the country.
The programme also develops the institutional capacity of the ministry of health and child welfare, its supplies and stores arm NatPharm as well as the Directorate of Pharmacy Services to ensure optimal storage, handling, distribution and monitoring of essential medicines.
This will result in a more harmonised distribution system for drugs and other health commodities.
According to Buhlebenkosi Moyo, Press and Information Officer at the EU, Henry Madzorera, minister of health and child welfare, will join the visiting European External Action Service (EEAS) managing director for Africa, Dr Nicholas Westcott, for the signing ceremony next Monday.
Head of the European Union Delegation in the country Ambassador Aldo Dell'Ariccia and Unicef Country Representative Dr Peter Salama, will also attend the event.
Through this programme, 95% of healthcare facilities in Zimbabwe will maintain 80% availability of all essential medicines. This will largely benefit the poor and vulnerable population of Zimbabwe.
Over the years, the EU has made significant technical and financial contributions to the Inclusive Government through Unicef.
In addition to other interventions, the EU has contributed through Unicef: $10.1m towards the Education Transition Fund, which has re-invigorated the education sector; another $13.5m towards the Programme of Support (PoS) for the National Action Plan, that saw increased access to basic social services for 527 000 orphans and vulnerable children; and $7.9m to the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme towards emergency response and reduction and rehabilitation of water and sewage systems.
