Zimbabwe nurses fume over salary delays

The Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) is reportedly up in arms with the government following the recent shelving of civil servants salary dates.

The government has written a notice shelving civil servants salaries with the security sector set to get their salaries by the end of the month while the rest of civil servants have been moved to mid next month.

ZINA Secretary General, Enock Dongo said the government has deliberately ignored the agreement between the employer and health employees since the beginning of the year where the health sector has enjoyed benefits of being a critical sector, a situation that had seen them getting pay earlier than the rest of civil servants.

ZINA's bone of contention is on the decision by the government to classify the health sector as part of the rest of civil servants as opposed to them being a critical service sector in line with the provisions of the constitution.

The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa was quoted in the media saying the government had moved to recognise the health sector as a critical sector but the privilege has since been withdrawn without notice creating an impasse between the nurses and the employer.
