Umzingwane could be Zimbabwe's HIV capital, says Min Parirenyatwa

Umzingwane District could be HIV, STI and cervical cancer capital in the country, a top health official has said.

Available figures show that cervical cancer stands at 21 % against an average of 10 % in other districts.

People withing the ages of 16- 25 accounted for 21 % HIV prevalence rate.

Said Health and Child Care Minister Dr. David Parirenyatwa, "Umzingwane is one of the smallest districts in the country but has the highest STI and HIV rate. The district's TB rate is also the highest in the country. It's worrying and we want to know why it's happening because the district is in the middle of nowhere, not in a border town."
