Lifeline for Bulawayo hospitals

The Bulawayo community has come to the rescue of referral hospitals in the city, who are facing a number of challenges that have seen one of the institutions suspending major operations.
Ingutsheni, United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) and Mpilo hospitals have all been affected by drug shortages
Concerned by the developments, a local organisation, Touched by the Angels, sourced utensils and drugs worth thousands of dollars for UBH, while a local church donated over 100 blankets to Mpilo Hospital.
Touched by the Angels interim chairman, Mr Sam Sibanda said their vision is to cover the whole country making donations if resources permit.
"For now we have been concentrating with Bulawayo after we saw a number of negative stories in the press. We however need to spread our wings to other parts of the country as we have noted that our help is needed in every corner of the country," he said.
Hospital representatives from UBH and Mpilo commended the donors for their noble gesture and urged the cooperate world to consider the plight of hospitals in their social responsibility programmes.
Bulawayo hospitals have been hard hit by the economic situation in the country, amid calls for government to honour the Abuja Agreement which calls for the allocation of 15 percent of the country's budget towards the health sector.
