An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3 shook northern Italy today, the second such quake this week.

The epicentre was near Parma, the US Geological Survey said. Residents in Milan said they felt the shock that lasted about 10-15 seconds.

Some office buildings in Milan were evacuated as a precaution, reports said.

On Wednesday, a magnitude-five earthquake shook a wide area of northern Italy from Verona to Genoa. No injuries or serious damage were reported then.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from today's quake.
