A central, Malaysian court on Thursday has charged a 14-year-old boy for allegedly sleeping with his older sister almost a year ago.
The boy who was represented by his lawyer in court was not asked to plead guilty to the charges brought before the magistrate; however he managed to get a 5, 000 bail.
"The boy was charged with committing the offence on his 15-year-old sister at a house in Kampung Bukit Kor, Batu Balai at midnight last year," The Malaysianinsider.com reported.
Incest in Malaysia is illegal and it is seen as taboo in most countries in the world, but it can be illegal or legal depending on the jurisdiction of the particular country.
If the offense includes incestuous rape in Malaysia, it is punishable for not less than 8 years of imprisonment.
In countries like Brazil, incest has no criminal punishment if it involves teenagers who are over the age of 14, and who are capable of acting upon their legal rights.
Contrary to this, in Hong Kong incest between close relatives, even if it involves consenting adults, is illegal and if individuals found guilty they can get a punishment of up to 20 years imprisonment.
However, in South Africa incest is a statutory crime according to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, of 2007.
