Johannesburg  - A wine company bearing the name of the former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela has been established in the United States, the Sunday Sun reported.

The "House of Mandela" wine company was started by his daughter Makaziwe Mandela and granddaughter Tukwini Mandela last week.

"There's a large segment of the black community who are interested in wine."

The wine can be bought online and is also available in China, Brazil, Europe and Africa.

The company's website highlights the importance of the wine industry in South Africa, noting that: "Like wine, South Africa is a kaleidoscope of different colours and textures."

According to the website, the prices of the company's wines range from R47.95 for "The Thembu Collection Shiraz 2012" to R264.95 for the House of Mandela Cabernet Sauvignon 2008".

"The Thembu Collection Shiraz 2012" is described as having "a soft and approachable style, drinking well in its youth".

The "House of Mandela Cabernet Sauvignon 2008" is described as having aromatics of "blackberry, violets and liquorice, which are inter-mingled with vanilla, graphite and nuances of cigar box and sandalwood".
