A rare Mercedes-Benz was 'completely destroyed' after two careless mechanics crashed it while taking it out for a test drive.
The elite 300 SL Gullwing Coupe sports car, one of only 1400, was left mangled in a roadside ditch following the accident near Stuttgart in Germany.
Estimated damages of more than €650,000 (£550,000) were caused when the luxury vehicle went off the side of the road and rolled over.
Police said a 26-year-old mechanic, accompanied by his 19-year-old apprentice, was clearly not observing the 55mph speed limit before the crash.
Unveiled in February 1954 and only available to purchase for three years, the Gullwing was named the sports car of the century in 1999.
German daily Der Spiegel reports the owner of the car was calm when informed of the crash and that the car has a chance at being restored.
Although the garage is insured against such accidents, it looks as though the pair involved could be doing some unpaid overtime for a long time to come.
