A circus acrobat who is accused of deliberately giving his girlfriend HIV twice denied that he had the virus, a Queensland court has heard.
Godfrey Zaburoni, 34, was asked at least twice by his girlfriend whether he had a sexually transmitted disease between 2007 and 2008, prosecutors say.
Mr Zaburoni was facing a charge of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm at the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
Crown prosecutor Mark Whitbread said Mr Zaburoni, who once appeared on TV talent show Australia's Got Talent, had been aware he had the human immunodeficiency virus since 1998.
But Mr Zaburoni admitted it only when his former girlfriend confronted him a third time in September 2009, after she had been diagnosed with HIV, Mr Whitbread told the jury.
He said Mr Zaburoni denied there was a discussion at the start of the relationship about his HIV, and the Zimbabwe-born acrobat claimed to have only discovered his HIV status six months after the relationship ended.
The trial continues.
