FORMER U.S. Representative Mel Reynolds, 62, has said he would give the United States federal authorities evidence of government corruption in Zimbabwe where he was arrested in February for overstaying his visa.

Reynolds, back in Chicago, called a press conference Wednesday that he was surprised to be arrested for allegedly overstaying his visa, something he claimed to have done on previous visits without Harare authorities throwing up a fuss.

Following his February 16 arrest over the alleged visa breach, prosecutors in Harare added a charge of possessing p*rnography saying he had been found with pictures of undressed men and women on his iPhone 4s. Reynolds denied the claim which was later dismissed by the courts.

He spent five days in jail before being fined and deported after pleading guilty to immigration violations.

The Chicago press conference Wednesday was called with plans to divulge information about government corruption in Harare, but Reynolds then said he was asked to meet with law enforcement officials first.

He said he believed it did not become a problem until the Harare government feared he would come back to America and expose the truth about government corruption, including illegally taking government money from Americans.

Reynolds also vowed to sue several reporters and news organizations in the US over reports regarding the p*rnography charge.
