A British woman, mother of two has escaped being hanged for drugs offences in Malaysia, The Sun reported on Wednesday.

Shivaun Orton, 41, was jailed for 14 months but could be free in 12 weeks because of the time she has already been in custody.

She denied possessing and trafficking drugs including heroin, cannabis and amphetamines.

Police claimed Shivaun, from Harlech, North Wales, had 225g of heroin - and Malaysia has the death penalty for possessing more than 15g.

But it later turned out that she had less than the 15g limit.

Her family were delighted with the outcome last night.

Her mother Shirley, 73, did not want to comment. But her brother Daniel said: "It is a brilliant outcome."

Shivaun, who has two teenage sons, was arrested in December when police raided the hotel she runs in Cherating with her Malaysian husband.
