Ottawa - A group of Canadian technology workers won a $7.1m lottery this week on the same day they lost their jobs at an Ottawa manufacturing plant.
The 18 workers won the prize on Wednesday, the same day their company, Smart Technologies, announced massive layoffs, starting in September, a company official said.
The Calgary-based company said it is shifting its manufacturing to Mexico.
Ten of the 18 who will share in the lottery prize received pink slips.
