The Mopane Foundation International Launch - A success story
22 Oct 2015 at 11:31hrs | Views
On the 17th of October 2015 Mopane Foundation International was launched with all the glitter at Hilton Hotel in Sheffield as a charitable organisation that supports less privileged school-going orphaned children in Matebeleland, Zimbabwe with school essentials such as school fees, school uniforms and basic stationary. The event was well attended by people from different cities all over the country and the official launch was performed by the Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Sheffield. The Lady Mayoress of Sheffield was in attendance gracing the event.
The event was a success; 9 scholarship pledges on the day for 2016, 6 from a 12 year old Tamara who is forfeiting her birthday presents for cash to pay for other kids' school fees! yes you heard right she is only 12 and will be 13 in Dec; 2 scholarships from Michelle Msimanga and 1 from Sheffield businessman Tendayi Mandishona who wants to educate a little girl and we shall put things in place that he can correspond with the child once the child is identified and all legal necessities put in place. Calvary Apostolic Assembly under Pastor Jeniva Mpofu in Birmingham has also pledged to pay for 2 kids from 2016 onwards. Mr Nhlalo Mlilo has pledged to do 4 marathons in the New Year in aid of our charity! We got donations from a number of individuals across the country, people who have been helping behind the scenes with planning and all the advice, the assisting with publicizing our event and as the Mopane Foundation team we are so grateful.
We couldn't have done this without some special people who were charitable enough to sacrifice their time, money and support the event by providing services for our event. All was done for absolutely free; the entertainment teams who came to pure rescue us by keeping our guests on their toes - U'Zambezi Arts came all the way from Kent, a Sheffield group SOSA-XA, Busi Mhlanga from London, Ejive from Doncaster and 12 year princess Tamara from Derby we can never quantify in monetary terms the sacrifices you made for our event to be such a success.
The speakers; Na Ncube, Thandiwe Khumalo, Lucky Moyo (who has always been on speed-dial from day one as a brother and a consultant) DJ Socks, the MC Pst Derrick Maphosa (who came in on 12th hour) and the photographers Butho Oscar and Chuba & Sons Media productions. Lang'elihle KaKhoza filled the auctioneer's vacancy.
The Mopane Foundation International CEO Nomsa Neke wore a stunning black outfit with a black & white top symbolling the black history month designed by a Zimbabwean designer Miss Loppy. The team will also want to appreciate Calvary Apostolic Assembly Churches and Mwanaka Farm Foods for all support they continue giving to the initiative.
The Foundation which currently is supporting 7 kids in Matebeleland South is confident that with what has been raised including pledges it can confidently increase the number of beneficiaries to 30 in 2016 and that's an astounding achievement. Without the support we couldn't have done it – thank you
Let's meet again in October 2016 (Venue and date to be confirmed) details whereby we will have evidence of what we have done with your donations.
