A 46-year-old bird hunter was shot in the buttocks after his dog stepped on a shotgun.
The man was duck hunting with friends when the accident happened.
The man was climbing out of a boat when his pet dog trod on the 12-guage gun.
It wasn't known whether the firearm's safety catch was on at the time.
Utah Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Potter said the man was hit from about 10 feet away with 27 pellets of birdshot.
He said the man was not seriously injured, in part because he was wearing waders.
The man was treated at a nearby hospital.
