Single-sex schools: do they encourage kids to be homosexuals? - Live Debate

For days I have been thinking of a better way to ask this question, following the "Lesbian scandal rocks St James Girls High".

A reader commented: "The single sex schools always had this problem although it has been downplayed. The issue is now complicated by satellite TV especially the soap Generations which portrays homosexuality as something good and acceptable. Believe it or not this practice is more serious in our sport."

What do you think? do you think most homosexuals attended single-sex schools?

Debates do not always give us the true picture of what is happening. Opinions remain opinions not - proven. Let us have a survey done by a qualified institution so that we refer to live data.

When I grew up there was no such thing as lesbian or gays .I don't mean to judge anyone but let's not blame the schools ,these pple also went to mixed schools. Its ones choice to be a gay or lesbian

I feel you are leaving out a very critical part of the schooling system, the teachers (Authorities) in most cases they are the initiators of this practice call it whatever you like. In most of these schools the teachers are the culprits. The students are initiated in by these school authorities, like in the Oprah Winfrey SA. School saga.

@ MARVINMOOLA, take note of my opening statement, ....the times we are living..”, there has been a lot of change since the 90’s and the devil is at work as Sibbs said, he is doubling his efforts, trying to harvest as many souls to his kingdom becoz his time is short, so don’t be ignorant and say this thing is flooded and because we did’nt experience it, it existed long before we were born, but the rate at which its spreading should be a serious cause for concern.

We have to understand the times we are living, we are in "injury time" so to say. When I attended Hamilton High School in the early 90’s we never heard or saw this kind of thing. The truth be told, homosexuality is a spirit. I don’t believe single schools encourage that behavior, but its up to one to know who she or he is, remember no one is born gay, its a choice.

These girls were just experimenting - remember women are more "hormonal" and also more emotional than men. So maybe due to their cycles, body changes or something, certain thought or behaviors come out. I don't think being sent to the bush during that major transition from girl to woman is the best thing for some girls. Its better for boys.

From a mens perspective its ABSOLUTE NONSENSE. In a boys school, the worst thing you can be is overly feminine - the guys will eat you alive! When people start calling you gay your schooldays will be a nightmare. In fact in co-ed schools, a gay boy will probably hang out more with girls, pick up more female traits and become even "more gay".

yes I do agree that most homosexuals attend single sex schools because most of the times the same sex students spend much of their time interacting with each other and sharing their sexual feelings together thereby indulging in sexual practices due to the fact that they are not exposed to a different sex partner.

I think kids have got a habit of experimenting a lot. so these schools might also be encouraging that behaviour - which is good in a way because kids will know that they are not straight from a young age.
