STATE MUST HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR
By Itai Dzamara
Over 150 people today turned up at Africa Unity Square, to join in the wait for President Robert Mugabe's response, but, it was the apparent demonstration of serious fear and paranoia by the state that is a cause for concern.
Just before 10:00 hrs, two police trucks brought groups in riot gear, to beef up the number that was already in the park, to over 100 members.
Immediately, the police embarked on a swift process of chasing away people from the park.
It quickly emerged that a group of about 15 police members in uniform, and about eight individuals in civic attire, were assigned to chase our team, comprising of eight members that had gathered at particular spot.
The police and other individuals chased after us, all the way to the entrance of the building housing Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights offices.
Throughout the day, fighter jets have been hovering the skies and regularly flying over Harare CBD.
After people had gathered again, police once again cleared the square just after 13:00 hrs.
After 14:00 hrs, more than 100 people were back at the park.
We are pleased by the turn out of Zimbabweans, who have continued to conduct themselves in civil, peaceful and resolute ways.
We are however shocked by the extent of paronia and fear being demonstrated by the police.
We are back at the park and resolved to continue with our mission.
We are pursuing steps to take legal action over police's repeated actions of chasing away people from the square, as well as clearly demonstrated intentions to victimise us.
We are continuing with our mission.
We are the people!
We are the numbers!
Let's go!
