Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa's was never appointed to succeed aging veteran ruler, President Robert Mugabe, a key member of Zanu PF G40 faction has declared.
People pushing for a Mnangagwa take over are doing him a massive disservice, Mugabe's nephew, Indigenisation minister Patrick Zhuwao has said.
"I have been made to take a position on the issue of succession and my position is very clear, I will not support those who are saying the VP should succeed the president" Zhuwao said.
"The challenge here is that the people that claim to be supporting VP Mnangagwa are doing it in a manner that seems to want to give the impression that vice-president Mnangagwa was appointed to succeed President Mugabe," he is quoted saying.
"I think they will be shocked and surprised because it is those very same people who are doing a great disservice to the VP," he added.
During a BBC interview last year, Mnangagwa's rival Higher Education minister Jonathan Moyo ruled out the vice president taking over power.
"He is the VP of the country, one of the two appointed by the president to assist him implement the president's agenda related to his pledge to the electorate, "he said.
