Two suspended MDC-T Bulawayo councilors, James Sithole and Charles Moyo have lost their controversially acquired residential stands.
Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Saviour Kasukuwere wrote to council on 2 November instructing the municipality to cancel the stands offer.
In September, Sithole and Moyo where suspended along with deputy mayor, Gift Banda, Mzama Dube and Reuben Matengu on corruption allegations, accusing the MDC-T-led council of operating like a mafia.
The suspensions came in the wake of revelations that the local authority is owed more than $500 000 in illegal land deals involving councilors who have been accumulating vast tracts of land at the expense of the people.
Below is Kasukuwere's letter which is attached to a BCC latest monthly report released today (Tuesday) :
"RE: RESCISSION OF THE RESOLUTION TO ALLOCATE PARKLANDS TOWN HOUSE STANDS TO COUNCILLORS J. SITHOLE AND C. MOYO.
The above matter refers.
I refer to a special Council meeting held on the 10th March 2016 which, among other things, made a resolution that Parklands Town House stands 15943 measuring 3,7222 Hectares and 15945 measuring 2,273 Hectares be allocated to Councillor J. Sithole and Councillor C. Moyo respectively in terms of Section 152 (2) of the Urban Councils Act {Chapter 29:15}.
In terms of Section 314 of the Urban Councils Act [Chapter 29:15], I hereby direct Council to rescind the aforecited resolution. Furthermore, Council is directed to put on hold all allocations, leases and any land related matters involving Councillors.
Therefore, be guided accordingly".
