Two Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) cops were arrested together with two Chimanimani thugs after robbing diamond dealers at Jinga village in Chimanimani.
It is alleged two cops from Gweru rural police station Elphas Matarutse (27) and Wilson Chabata (34) connived with two thugs of Jinga village Oliver Bvekwa (27) and Solomon Machisi (35) in robbing diamond dealers at gun on 6 December ,violating section (126) of criminal law codification and reform act chapter (9,23).
Sources close to investigations said the four pretended to be diamond buyers luring diamond dealers to sell their diamond before robbing them.
"On the 6th of December around midnight the accused people hatched a plan to rob the complainants with a pistol.
The four suspects robed 30 pieces of suspected diamond before driving off in a Honda fit registration number ADX 1993," said the source.
The robbers could not get far with their gate away car as they were involved in an accident a kilometre from the scene of crime.
Three suspects were nabbed but Machisi managed to escape in the dark and is still at large.
National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said she is yet to receive the case.
