Aviation authorities at The Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport have disclosed that the reported 'plane crash' on Thursday morning was not real but a 'planned drill'.
Airport manager Passmore Dewa said it was merely meant to test emergency preparedness at the airport and educate people on the do's and don'ts.
"It's an international exercise to check disaster preparedness," he is quoted saying.
The simulation crash involved a plane from Zambia.
When reports of the 'crash' emerged, social media went overdrive sparking panic that the 'accident' was real
Years ago, an Air Zimbabwe plane veered off the runway in Harare after hitting a group of warthogs.
Two passengers were injured in the incident.
