Stock theft in the Midlands Province has dropped by 37%, thanks to the branding of the herd which many farmers have adopted.
This was said by the officer commanding Midlands, Senior Assistant Commissioner Abigal Moyo at the re-launch of the Police Client Service Charter at Joel Business Centre in Zhombe two weeks ago. She said that in 2015, 842 cattle were reported stolen from January to October as compared to the same period this year where police have received 529 cases of stock theft. The difference is 37%.
"This year we have received 529 cases involving cattle theft as compared to 842 cases that we received last year as from January to December which shows 37 % decrease," said Moyo.
Moyo urged all Midlands farmers to brand their cattle for easy identification in case they are stolen.
"I encourage all Midlands farmers to brand your cattle as this reduces cases of stock theft and it is also easier for the Police and the owners of the cattle to identify them," said Moyo.
