A nine year old hungry Plumtree boy was severely assaulted by his mother for eating porridge meant for his younger brother.
His mother, Tshakahha Ncube had left him with his brother as she went to fetch firewood.
However, the boy helped himself to the porridge as he was hungry.
But that earned him a thorough beating from Ncube who had interrogated him as to who ate the porridge, a court heard.
"She confronted her son who admitted that he ate the porridge as he was feeling hungry. Ncube took a stick and assaulted her son all over the body," prosecutor Elisha Mazorodze narrated in court.
The boy sustained severe injuries all over the body as a result of the attack but did not report the matter.
A neighbour approached the village head of the area and reported the matter. The matter was then taken to the police resulting in Ncube's arrest.
Ncube was sentenced to 24 months in jail but six months were suspended for five years.
The remaining 18 months were also suspended on condition that she perform 630 hours of community service at Nopemano Primary School.
