Home Affairs Deputy Minister Obedingwa Mguni has issued a warning to Zambia, setting a new deadline for opening of the border.
"If Zambia is still not ready, then we will give them an ultimatum" state run Chronicle reported.
"Zambia has delayed us for a very long time. We have been ready to have the border operational for some time now. We are now giving them an ultimatum to be ready before May 1".
The opening of the border post is also set to contribute to an increase in tourist arrivals in the district which has a number of attractions which include hot springs, national parks and a crocodile farm.
The idea to construct a border post between Zimbabwe and Zambia in Binga came as part of efforts to reconnect the Tonga people as the Zambezi river cut across a village and the people, mostly relatives were separated.
