Former Mashonaland West Resident Minister and Governor Peter Chanetsa  has died at the age of 70.

He fell victim to heart failure, his brother Kenneth Chanetsa said.

"We lost him just after midnight (yesterday) and the doctors have confirmed that his heart failed" Chanetsa said.

Zanu PF officials described him as a 'strong and resolute patriot'.

At the time of his death, he was part of President Robert Mugabe's inner circle, the Central Committee in Zanu PF.

Mourners are gathered at No. 6 Iona Close, Borrowdale, while others are at his Biri Farm in Zvimba, state media reported.
