Security guard sells cannabis to pay school fees

A security guard in Bulawayo has been jailed for 12 months for possession of cannabis (mbanje) with an estimated street value of $6 500

Tawanda Ncube,41, of Nkulumane suburb appeared in court before Magistrate Tinashe Tashaya who convicted him on his own plea of guilty.

Ncube was caught red-handed carrying mbanje which was wrapped in a newspaper inside a bag by police detectives in Tshabalala suburb.

In court Ncube said was  selling mbanje to get money to fend for his family.

He also told the court that was going to use the money to pay school fees his three children.

"I was selling the dagga so as to get money to fend for my family. I also wanted the money to pay school fees for my three children. I'm asking the court to be lenient with me when passing sentence," said Ncube.

Magistrate Tashaya sentenced Ncube to an effective nine months in prison after conditionally suspending three months on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within five years.
