Co-Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has taken over power from his counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mnangagwa has been acting president since late December last year.
President Robert Mugabe is still holidaying in the Far East with his family as part of his traditional annual leave and had been shuttling between Singapore and China.
"Honourable Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko assumes the capacity of Acting President from tomorrow (today) 10th January, 2017, in the absence of His Excellency the President R.G Mugabe, who is still on his traditional annual leave.
"Vice President Mphoko will act up to the end of this month when His Excellency the President is expected back in the Office "Information, Media and Broadcasting Services secretary George Charamba said in statement.
Last year, Mphoko and Mnangagwa also exchanged roles.
However, this time around, Mngangagwa's tenure was marred with the "I am the boss" mug over the Christmas period.
