Zanu PF secretary for administration, Ignatius Chombo has revealed that the party is planning to increase its presence om social media platforms ahead of the 2018 polls.
"Because you are learned, you speak fluent English and we have realised that you are the ones who are able to manage phones, we are hoping that, as you prepare for 2018, you will look at all electronic devices and give us advice on how we should use them and how you want it managed" he said Friday as quoted by NewsDay.
Chombo said they are turning to the youths to invade the platforms as older party members are are struggling to to cope with information technology trends.
"We have realised that we normally get challenges in that area.
"People like me are even failing to get a good picture on WhatsApp.
"So you must teach us and others who do not know how to use these devices for the benefit of the party in a modern society for a modern party that uses modern technology".
However, in April last year, President Robert Mugabe announced plans to strictly police Internet access, censoring web users and blocking access to sites deemed sensitive Chinese-style as move slammed by the opposition and analysts as a fascist move that risks dragging the country back into the Stone Age era.
Mugabe Zimbabwe needed to implement measures to control social media to minimise rampant abuse of the platforms.
"...there's a lot of bad stuff on the Internet" Mugabe said.
