Loveness Kashaya (21) from Mukute Village under Chief Makumbe in Buhera has committed suicide after her parents allegedly stopped her from marrying her sweetheart married uncle Chale Mugadzikwa recently.

Kashaya hanged herself on a tree branch with a handbag beltwhile on her way home with a handbag belt after her father Josiah Kashaya had forcibly taken her away from the uncle after she had eloped.

The father confirmed  that he had just beaten up the uncle and her daughter as the family felt that it was an act of incest and the girl had not informed anyone as they heard the issue through the rumours.

"With anger I went to Mugadzikwa's place and assaulted both my daughter and Mugadzikwa, I told my daughter to go home and I remained behind in order to discuss the matter with some elders.

"When I got home she was not there and her body was found hanging from a tree by a passer-by," said Josiah Kashaya the father.

He added that the matter was reported at Murambinda Police Station and he was picked up as they suspected that he had killed his daughter and hanged the body so that it would appear as suicide, but was freed after the postmortem confirmed that it was suicide.
