South Africa is preparing to kick out close to 200 000 Zimbabweans by year end.
That would be after the expiry of their special dispensation permits on December 31 this year.
According to South African media, Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba said the special permit arrangement could not continue forever.
"We can not offer permanent residency for such a high number of people" Gigaba is quoted saying.
Gigaba said there were 197 000 on the special permit arrangement adding that he would make an announcement on the ZSP before the end of this month.
"We will make a well-thought-out decision, hopefully with the support of my cabinet colleagues," he said.
